Crohn’s and Colitis are the two most commonly known IBD’s yet people are still uneducated about the severity/realness of these diseases. It is estimated that about 1 in 150 Canadians,  about 1.4 million people in the United States are living with IBD. Per 100,000 people 100 to 200 are estimated to have Ulcerative colitis and around 30 to 100 people are believed to have Crohn’s disease.
When the common person hear’s IBD they adamaticly think IBS but No they are not the same thing. IBD stands for “Inflammatory Bowel Disease” IBS stands for Irritable Bowel Syndrome They are very different IBS is much less severe then IBD. IBS does not cause ulcers or inflammation or other damaging things to the digestive system…just because they both start with “IB” and involve your bowls does not mean they are the same.
And No us in the IBD community do not only use the “bathroom” all the time even though that is a part of our illness it is not everything, that is one aspect of our illness, one side effect…we go through much much more. IBD ( Crohn’s disease & Ulcerative colitis) cause all these things and much more:
Abdominal pain
Chronic diarrhea.
Weight loss.
Lack of appetite.
Frequent diarrhea can also lead to dehydration & nutritional deficiencies.
forms of arthritis.
Joint pains.
Eye inflammation.
Skin irritation.
Fistulas & Fissures.
diarrhea mixed with blood and mucus
blood on rectal examination
chronic loss of blood from the GI tract
forms of arthritis
phthous ulcer
Erythema nodosum,
These are only part of all that goes into to Crohn’s and colitis (IBD) not even starting on the mental aspect of IBD!
No one knows what causes Crohn’s disease, so it is known as an idiopathic disease…40%/60% of Crohn’s disease sufferer who have disease in there small bowel will have surgery in the first 10 years of being diagnosed. There are no direct known causes for ulcerative colitis, There are many possible factors for both like genetics and stress, environment, WE need more research done so we the IBD community can have a cure! It Is not just a “Bathroom” disease. GET EDUCATED!

I will stay strong

I will stay strong

I will fight.

I will fight.

I will win!

I will win!

Most of my info is from my personal experience with Crohn’s disease it is also from and verified on Wiki and the CCFC website it can also be found on any website which talks about IBD. I Strongly encourage everyone to educate yourself on IBD.
