What are the Differences between IBD and IBS?
Lets start this off by stating that I am in no way trying to put down or disvalue what people with IBS go through day in and day out! I’m sure IBS is also a very difficult thing to live with. However, there is a strong misconception within the general pubic that IBD and IBS are the same thing, this just simply is NOT THE CASE.
The names themselves can be misleading…
IBD = Inflammatory Bowel Disease
IBS = Irritable Bowel Syndrome
You see both IBD & IBS start with the letters “IB” Also, they both do involve the word “BOWEL”, All this for some people can be very confusing and mislead them into believing that IBD and IBS are the same thing, Which could not be farther from the truth!
I have created a simple Chart to visually show the differences and similarities;
If i have missed any Symptoms in either IBD or IBS feel free to list them in the comment section.
Now, As you see there are a few similarities between the two, However, Majority of those similarities involve bathroom issues. Those with IBS do not suffer with inflammation where as IBD sufferers do, Inflammation which not only effects the bowels but most of the body everything from eyes to joints. Also with IBD you get Structural Change’s in digestive track. Most people with IBD will require surgeries where as IBS suffers (generally speaking) do not.
IBD with all its complications is fatal, IBS is not.
Therefor, IBD is clearly more dangerous and life altering. IBS can be treated with a life style change where as IBD can not. Dietary changes may help with IBD symptoms for some but for others it could do very little to nothing at all & will by no means cure you of IBD.
IBD and IBS both effect your quality of life & Both need more research done so we can know the causes and one day possible find the cures!
I created this simple photo for you to share along with the IBD/IBS comparison chart to give a quick explains for what IBD is.
I encourage you to share both photos, just right click on the photos, click save then share away!!
Please, if you do share the photos insert a link to my blog!

Very interesting article,
You should research if our sit down toilet’s may be the cause, Why because its the wrong way to empty our bowels,
Try to find some stats of ibd\ibs and compare them with another country where they dont use sit down toilets, such as france or china or japan,

The “sit down toilet cause” idea is irrational, IBD is a inflammatory auto immune disease it has nothing to do with how we sit , it likely has something to do with environmental causes. IBD is more common in developed countries, urban areas, and colder climates
